Path to McKinsey
I joined McKinsey shortly after completing his undergraduate studies at the London School of Economics. After gaining two years of experience as a business analyst, he took a break in 2014 to pursue an MBA from the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business. I rejoined the firm in 2016, bringing with him a fresh perspective and enhanced skill set.
Continuous Learning Culture and Professional Development
One of the key aspects that sets McKinsey apart for me is our continuous learning culture. At McKinsey, my learning journey began from day one and continues throughout my career. I have been fortunate to work with exceptional colleagues and inspirational clients, and I have had the opportunity to engage in a combination of formal and informal professional development opportunities that have contributed to my ongoing growth.
I particularly value the comprehensive professional development program offered by the firm, which has provided me with support and guidance at crucial points in my career. I vividly recall attending LEAD II, a training that played a pivotal role during my transition from associate to engagement manager. The collaborative nature of the program allowed me to connect with fellow participants, find answers to my questions, and gain confidence in my new role.
Collaboration for Exceptional Results
Collaboration is another aspect that stands out for me at McKinsey. I was pleasantly surprised by the level of support I received from senior colleagues early on in my tenure. I recall an experience where I reached out to a partner in the US who was an expert in a niche topic relevant to my clients. Not only did the partner provide guidance over a phone call, but they also traveled to conduct a workshop with the clients. This collaborative effort helped address the clients’ concerns and significantly improved the execution of recommended changes. I want to emphasize that McKinsey truly operates as one firm, working collectively to deliver exceptional results for our clients.
Achieving Work-Life Balance
Maintaining a healthy work-life balance is a priority for me at McKinsey, and I appreciate the empowerment I have to control my own balance. Through programs like Take Time, I am able to allocate additional time to personal pursuits and people I care about. I also value the flexibility to take paid time off between intense projects, allowing me to maintain a sustainable rhythm in my work.
Anh’s Advice for Aspiring Consultants
For aspiring consultants applying to McKinsey, I encourage them to embark on a journey with thorough preparation for the interview process. Embrace the opportunity to unlock their full potential and showcase their unique qualities that align with what McKinsey seeks. The key lies in identifying their core strength and mastering the art of effectively articulating it during interviews.
