Record breaking year for Black hiring
In June 2020, McKinsey put forth a public commitment to anti-racism and social justice through our 10 Actions. Since then, our recruiting community delivered in many ways, including on Action #1 - double Black leadership and hiring of Black colleagues. Here’s where we are one year later:
- Record breaking 80% increase in global Black recruiting
- Doubled our First Year and Sophomore Internship program in North America and launched new programs, including BUILD, a 2-year rotational program in our Client Capabilities Network, and the inaugural Historically Black Colleges and University (HBCU) Tampa Service Center People Operations Internship Program
- Widened Black hiring efforts to include all regions and roles, while expanding our sourcing reach, e.g.:
- In Brazil, we expanded the Juntos conference to reach 1,200+ top Black candidates
- In Europe, we hosted our first-ever ethnic diversity speaker series and events, reaching hundreds of candidates
- In Africa, we expanded African Leaders on the Move from the Casablanca office to six offices, attracting 3,000 applicants and ultimately reaching 410 participants
- In North America, we expanded HBCU recruiting efforts to 30 sources
- Formed new partnerships including with AfroTech and National Black MBA
- Launched an Ethnic Diversity Award and Black Talent Award as part of McKinsey Achievement Awards
