Social Responsibility in India
We are committed to empowering our ecosystem in India – to give back to our communities in ways that are socially responsible and environmentally sustainable.
Our impact
SERVING THOSE WHO SERVE SOCIETY
Expanding literacy in India
We joined forces with Pratham, an innovative nonprofit that aims to make education and vocational services more accessible to millions of young Indians. The team helped Pratham assess its core strengths as an organization and prioritize strategies that yielded success.
Mobilizing COVID-19 relief
Together with ACT Grants, a COVID-19 relief coalition created by the Indian startup ecosystem, our teams worked tirelessly to address key challenges faced by the country at the height of the pandemic. We helped deliver and procure much-needed medical equipment and supplies, launched homecare solutions and touched the lives of several thousand patients.
Facilitating COVID-19 relief work
Working with I Am Gurgaon, a citizen-led initiative, our team helped the district prepare for and respond to the COVID-19 crisis. We brought together a consortium of leading hospitals, private sector companies and civil society to pool medical resources and funding, resulting in the creation of a 50-bed hospital equipped with much-needed equipment and supplies to treat COVID-19 patients. We also helped set up a 'Nerve Center' to facilitate coordination with multiple government authorities and agencies, while supporting COVID-19 relief activities.
Supporting India’s premier educational institutions
A leader in technological education and a hub for innovation, entrepreneurship and research, IIT-Delhi has been home to some of the brightest minds in the country since its inception. In 2020, McKinsey helped the organization define its ten-year vision and strategy to accelerate the next phase of its growth. The Firm also continues to support the IIT-Delhi Endowment Fund with the implementation of its long-term growth strategy.
Building Institutions of Today and Tomorrow
Education
Indian School of Business
Consistently ranked among the top business schools in the world, ISB was founded in 1996 as a unique project-led by McKinsey in collaboration with Kellogg, Wharton, and London Business School-to bring premier management education to India. Today, it is a training ground for world-class talent and boasts a vibrant student body synonymous with leadership, innovation, and sustainable growth. The school continues to play a catalytic role in nation-building, for everything from nurturing and grooming future-ready leaders from diverse backgrounds to producing cutting-edge research.
Education
Generation India
Generation India Foundation (GIF), an affiliate of Generation You Employed, is an independent non-profit founded by McKinsey & Company. It has become the world’s largest demand-driven skilling initiative, with more than 40,000 graduates spread across 14 countries. Generation India is live in 41 cities, with more than 300 employer partners, and more than 10,000 students enrolled, with over 80 percent receiving job offers. In 2020, Generation formed a coalition to help upskill more than 120,000 healthcare workers in India to help meet the expanding healthcare needs driven by COVID-19. GIF is tying up with the government to significantly scale-up operations and train 30,000 workers, co-funded with public and private funding through 2023.
Healthcare
Public Health Foundation of India
For over a decade, PHFI has been an instrumental force in strengthening India’s public health system by adopting broader and more integrative approaches that examine the country’s healthcare concerns from both a scientific as well as a social point-of-view. McKinsey
has helped catalyze the need for such an effort by facilitating the conceptualization of the
foundation, engaging different stakeholders within India and around the world, leading private
fundraising, and providing project management and execution support. The foundation was
developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare
Skilling
Teach For India
In 2006, McKinsey launched a 12-week study to determine the feasibility of adapting the Teach for America model to India. This led to the birth of the groundbreaking Teach For India, an organization that has dedicated itself to battling education inequity in the country. The Firm continues to support TFI on its long-term strategy of improving infrastructure and quality of education at under-resourced government schools. Most recently, our pro bono teams helped TFI identify disruptive educational trends to address challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic.
