Challenge
Our research indicates that only 30 percent of transformations succeed. A critical constraint is leadership’s behavior and capabilities. From top-level leaders to farmer-facing change agents, there are opportunities to give leaders the tools and training they need. Even the most skilled leaders struggle to manage change at the scale required for a rural transformation. And many change agents are asked to take on new and unfamiliar responsibilities as frontline drivers of important transformation initiatives. Without adequate preparation, these leaders and change agents become frustrated and overwhelmed, often burning out and putting the whole effort at risk.
What we do
At the McKinsey Center for Agricultural Transformation, we understand the challenges leaders and change agents will face and have devised strategies and tools to help them succeed.
Through our Africa Delivery Hub, for example, we are able to embed technical advisers within governments to help troubleshoot day-to-day challenges and build the skills of frontline managers.
Our Leadership Academy can provide intensive training, ongoing support and access to best practices in management and technical areas, and a peer network to provide continuous feedback and encouragement.
