Leads our Iberian Industry & Energy Transition Initiative, partnering with clients on transformations driven by the energy transition

André is a partner in McKinsey’s Iberian office and plays a significant role in various responsibilities and initiatives. He is one of the leaders within the Global Energy & Materials (GEM) division and has extensive experience leading energy transition transformations.

Helping companies on their path toward carbon neutrality, André shapes their strategies for the future energy mix and successfully advances decarbonizing in downstream operations. Drawing on global experience, he leads the Iberian Industry and Energy Transition Initiative, where he supports companies in shaping and developing strategic investments that enhance the region’s competitiveness.

André is a go-to expert on topics such as energy (power and gas), renewables, grids, retail, and new downstream and materials (batteries ecosystem).

Some of his recent client work includes the following:

  • developing multiple strategy and business plans for a major European utility, shaping the path toward net zero and challenging its presence across the energy value chain and current geographies, exploring new avenues of growth (e.g., renewables, new downstream), and forming the foundation for a cultural transformation
  • implementing a post-merger management program for a global renewables company, accelerating plans to grow its international footprint in a new market, developing a thorough diagnostic and a detailed action plan to prepare the team for day one and after
  • supporting a growth program for a European oil and gas company, developing multiple initiatives on energy retail and new downstream, including solar distributed generation business building from scratch (including traditional and energy communities’ perspectives)
  • leading a strategic reflection on the future path of downstream businesses toward energy transition for a global oil and gas company, supporting their strategy toward a more electrified market
  • building an entirely new business in a new sector (batteries ecosystem), shaping strategic, commercial, technical, engineering, people, risk, and financial initiatives to achieve a multibillion-dollar valuation potential

Prior to joining McKinsey, André worked at another consultancy for four years. He is fluent in Portuguese, English, and Spanish.
