Summer biography reading:
Trejo: My Life of Crime, Redemption, and Hollywood
by Danny Trejo with Donal Logue
My order just arrived at my local bookstore, so this is next on my summer reading list. Of all the people I’ve met, Trejo is one of the most authentic and sincere heroes in real life who happens to be an intimidating tough baddie on screen. I’m looking forward to reading his story in his own words.
‘Must-read’ tech reading:
The Ethical Algorithm: The Science of Socially Aware Algorithm Design
by Michael Kearns and Aaron Roth
One of several books on algorithms, data, and democracy on my reading list this summer to help me get smarter on the topic. I’m finding it to be a great primer into AI and ethics.
A Civic Technologist’s Practice Guide
by Cyd Harrell
This book by one of today’s leading civic tech leaders is a brilliant read for anyone interested in public–private partnerships and technology and finding practical solutions.
Summer poetry fix:
When the Light of the World Was Subdued, Our Songs Came Through: A Norton Anthology of Native Nations Poetry
edited by Joy Harjo
This comprehensive anthology of Native nations is my go-to book for the summer during breaks and in between meetings, where I can read one or several poems, put the book down, and come back to more amazing works later.
