Li advises healthcare systems and providers on strategy, operational performance, and organizational effectiveness. She focuses particularly on the design and execution of complex, large-scale transformations to improve patient experience and optimize costs. Her other areas of expertise include clinical operations, workforce excellence, purchasing services and supply chain, revenue-cycle management, and organization design.
Li’s recent client projects include the following:
- helping a group of academic medical centers design and implement new productivity targets, tracking tools, and processes in both clinical and ancillary departments, reducing salary spending by ten percent at some hospitals
- supporting a health system with targets for clinic productivity and premium pay at more than 40 primary care and specialty clinics, delivering savings of six to seven percent in overall labor spending
- advising on the design and implementation of a comprehensive COVID-19 testing strategy and the testing dimension of its broader return to work strategy
- working with a major US tech company to design applications for telehealth and virtual collaboration in the wake of the pandemic
Before joining McKinsey, Li carried out heart valve and colorectal cancer research at the University of Toronto, the University of Calgary, and the German Cancer Research Center. She holds a bachelor’s degree in pathobiology from the University of Toronto.
In her spare time, Li serves on the board of directors of the Maven Project, an organization that coordinates a network of volunteer physicians to provide clinical advice and support for community health centers in the United States.
